    Delhi: Resident Doctors detained by Delhi Police during protest march, female doctors alleges manhandling

    New Delhi: The Delhi Police has detained several resident doctors near ITO post office who were marching towards the Supreme Court from Maulana Azad Medical College in protest against the delay in NEET 2021 counseling. The protest was held by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA). The president of the association, Dr Manish, is amongst those who have been detained.

    Few female resident doctors who were detained by Delhi Police also alleges they were manhandled by male police officers, in a video posted on Twitter a woman can be heard claiming that the police used brute force on peacefully protesting resident doctors and detained them.

    Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support for protesting resident doctors and wrote on Twitter: “Showering flowers was a PR stunt, in reality it is injustice that is pouring. I am with covid warriors against the tyranny of the central government.” [sic]

    The Union Health Ministry and FORDA have held at least four meetings since November 27, the latest being on December 20 but without ending in any conclusion. There are atleast 5,000 resident doctors on strike since last week with more joining in. After the latest detaining of residents doctor, the FORDA has called for shutdown of healthcare institutions.
